The Huawei Nova 2 Plus smartphone looks and feels quite premium. The phone has the 5.0 inch screen with 1080p resolution. It got a Huawei made CPU Hisilison Kirin 659 which is an octa-core CPU with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of internal storage. The device is running Android 7. Out of that 64 gigabytes of internal storage we have about 52 gigabyets left. Luckily we can install an SD card as internal storage so you are not going to be running out of space anytime soon.
The processor used for Huawei Nova 2 Plus , the Hisilison Kirin 659 is basically replacement for the Snapdragon 625 they used to have for the previous generation of the Huawei Nova. It got 2950 mAh battery. It is able to run entire day without charging the phone and all of that about 5 hours and a half of screen on time. The phone supports fast charging so you can charge the entire phone from 0 to 100 in about an hour and a half which is not bad.
The Huawei Nova 2 Plus is definitely one of the smallest phones ever with a 5inch screen which is quite normal. The back and the sides of the phone are made out of metal. It looks very similar to the One Plus 5.On the back of the phone you’re going to find a 12 megapixel camera and this camera has F 1.8 and that’s going to help a lot in low-light conditions. It also has an 8 megapixel telephoto lens and you can basically optical zoom with that. Aside from that is the flash and a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is extremely quick. All you have to do is touch the fingerprint scanner and the phone unlocks very quickly. You can actually use the fingerprint scanner for other things as well such as taking pictures, answering phone calls and so on.
On the right hand side you have the power button and the volume keys and they seem to be made out of some type of plastic. On the other side you’re going to find a SIM card tray and moving all the way to the bottom of the phone, we have the 3.5 mm audio jack. We also have the microphone the USB C port and a speaker. Starting with the audio jack the sound coming out of it is exceptionally good. It’s loud with a lot of bass so it is pleasure listening to music coming from this device. Apart from that the phone supports OTG and lastly the speaker the speaker is also very loud and much better than a lot of other more expensive devices.
The front of the Huawei Nova 2 Plus has huge bezels all around the screen and a big chin and forehead. All the way the top you’re going to find the 20 megapixel front-facing camera, the speaker and a small LED notification light. The 20 megapixel front-facing camera has the potential to take some really good looking pictures in the right condition. The screen has a resolution of 1080p and it gets dried enough so you can actually use the phone outside without any issues and it gets dim enough so you can use the phone at night. Viewing angles are great you can see the screen no matter how you look at it. The colors are nice and vibrant and the sensitivity it’s also exceptionally good, so no issues on over there typing, playing games or anything.
On top of that the screen is also covered by some type of scratch resistant glass. Moving all the way to the bottom of the screen there you’re going to find the navigation buttons and luckily you can change those from the software.
The camera app is very quick at focusing and at taking pictures even in low-light conditions. There are a lot of modes available including the picture manual mode and also video manual mode and these could be helpful depending that who’s using the phone. It got optical zoom available since we have that telephoto lens on the back of the phone. If you limit yourself to just taking normal-looking pictures with a 12 megapixel sensor on the back of the camera the color reproduction is greater. The pictures are very sharp and with plenty of detail.
The camera also works quite good in low light conditions indoors and outdoors. Even though the pictures aren’t as sharp as in focus as the pictures taken during the day they still look quite good. If you do zoom you will see some up graining there but that’s quite normal for pretty much all the phones these days. Vidoes can be recored at a maxiumum of 1080p with no type of image stabilization. The cameras on the phone are all good.
The Huawei Nova 2 Plus by any means is not slow. Difference between this and a flagship device is the time that it takes to actually open apps. For gaming the phone also does quite good there with games like the GTA San Andreas. If you tunr on the GPS unit inside it only takes a second for the phone to find your location and once the location it’s found it doesn’t seem to lose it down easily. Using Google Maps also works quite good.
It has the all the sensors that you’d expect from a flagship device including a gyroscope and all the sensors work good. The phone can connect to 4G networks. Strangely enough the phone doesn’t seem to support dual band Wi-Fi so you can only connect to the 2.4 gigahertz Wi-Fi bands. The phone doesn’t have NFC either.
The Huawei Nova 2 Plus comes with Android 7 right from the box with its own skin on top. Scrolling between screens and opening new apps, multitasking everything works well and the phone do not slow down no matter what your are doing with it.
You can have access to the Huawei Theme Store but you will need to make an account if you plan on using any themes from that store. Overall this is an improvement over past on what we have seen on devices but still a long way to go. The Settings app has plenty of features but everything seems to be hidden away and moved somewhere else and kind of difficult to find it.
