Since this device is geared towards business users there’s no shortage of security features especially the shore view privacy screen feature. It has a fingerprint sensor for fingerprint login in windows. The setup is easy and it registers the finger much faster. HP did something very clever for those not needing the smart card reader especially the non-business users. They made use of it as a storage spot for your pen.

It is nice to see that HP thinking outside the box as far as the ports are concerned. You will be impressed by the nice array of ports. On the right-hand side HP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 got a power plug, a USB 3.0, full-sized HDMI port, a Kensington lock, USB type-c and it is Thunderbolt 3 which supports data and charge and a micro SD card slot for storage expansion. On the left hand side of the device you have your power button followed by another USB, a 3.5 millimeter headset jack, the volume rocker up and a dummy slot. If you opt for the optional LTE you’ll put your SIM card there and you have a smart card reader.

One of the best features of this device is its outstanding keyboard. There’s only 1.2 millimeters of key travel and the keys feel very responsive and very comfortable to type on especially for extended Gerdes. There’s very little flex in the keyboard thanks to its solid construction. HP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 does have multi level backlighting which is always great to see and thanks to its black keys, it’s easier to read than the silver version of the Spectre X360. For Skype business users there’s dedicated keys to answer and hang-up Skype calls.

As far as the touchpad is concerned, it uses precision drivers and it’s pretty spacious at 4.3 by 2.6 inches. It is smooth and accurate and very responsive to fingers. Scrolling work well and Windows 10 gestures works as advertised.

The speakers are located on the bottom of the device and they are Banging Olsen tunes. You can control the audio and customize it to your liking with the B&O control panel. The bass is decent and the volume is okay. These are certainly above-average speakers.

The HP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 has a 720p webcam which works okay. It’s a 720p webcam and it can do 720p at 30 frames per second. You can definitely use it for Skype for video conferencing when you need it or a meeting. The webcam is Windows Hello compatible so you have the choice of using the fingerprint sensor or the webcam for Windows Hello login.

Being a convertible device it has a 360 degree hinge and it’s very solid and very sturdy and you can put it into the different modes. It can do a tent mode which is great for recipes in the kitchen or when you want to watch a movie. There is a Stan mode or what many like to call the Media mode also great for watching movies, Netflix, listening to music or just wanting to consume media. You can put it into tablet mode which is great for using the pen. One can also opt for the laptop mode.

HP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 is a business focused device at heart and it has Windows 10 Pro. As a result now you can max it out with 16 gigs of RAM. This is definitely a core i7 model and is not a gaming machine. It has Bluetooth 4.2 and it has dual band wireless AC range and reception on both fronts are very good. HP claims you’re gonna get about 16 and a half hours of battery life. That’s in ideal conditions but you can get nine and a half hours at about 50% screen brightness. This also includes doing YouTube, Netflix, some light gaming, some Photoshop and some web browsing under the edge browserHP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 takes two and a half hours to fully charge.

As far as thermals are concerned, it stays pretty cool. Streaming an HD video from YouTube for about 15 minutes heats up to about 77 degrees on the touchpad, 83 degrees Fahrenheit around the center of the keyboard and 86 degrees on the bottom. Anything less than 95 degrees Fahrenheit is considered comfortable. The fan will kick in under heavy load but really it is pretty quiet.

HP Elitebook X360 G2 Core i7 is worth your hard-earned money. It is one of the best convertibles on the market right now, it’s on par if not even better than the HP Spectre X360. For this it’s got the pen support, nice display options either Full HD or 4k, decent sound, got very good battery life and a great design with a great build construction which is really durable.
